happens in the core
By andybyers

For a friend of mine who died far, far too young a few years ago.

happens in the core

    and in the morning
    there’s a new volcano
    in some farmer’s field
    in Mexico

    and a twister drops
    like a rapist’s erection
    to drag across
    the fertile earth

    and a dying star
    contracts
    and begins to fuse
    its helium

and you pick up the phone
    to hear a man say
    his 26-year-old son
    stopped breathing this morning

there’s a reason, somewhere
but not here

Big and small, it all seems random - and most likely is. Big to small, it's normally the small things that touch us the most.
