The Crossa Roada Liva Rap
By Bagheera
11 August 2005

OK, it's a while since I posted something new!

This is a response to a challenge thrown down yesterday by a local group who have been allocated some funding from European funds to do something 'creative' for schools on the theme of Road Safety.

It's a question of "use it or lose it" and they need to get their response in fast.

Any thoughts about the 'quality' (or otherwise!) of the piece will be appreciated!

The Crossa Roada Liva Rap

Duration                   5+ minutes <10 maximum

Target Audience      KS 1 / KS 2

Characters                2 boys, 2 girls (early teens.)
Their costumes should be colour-coded, 2 in RED, 2 in GREEN
                                    Most effective if B1 + G1 wear RED,  B2 + G2 wear GREEN.
This will make it easy for audience to ‘identify' with actors.

Yo! Well! Y' know that it's cool
Stayin' alive on the way to school
Now crossing a road can be easy as pie
So let's do it right, ‘cause you can if you try

||:   Boom - chah - [chah] - boom - chigga - ligga - ligga       :||

If you wanna be the Sunny Side o' the Street
Listen to the rhythm of your Streetwise Feet
They don't wanna be another statis - tic
Of accidents that happen daily in traff - ic
Stay away from pavement edges
Don't go hiding behind hedges
Red lorry, yellow lorry,
They can't stop and you'll be sorry
||: Boom - chah - [chah] - boom - chigga - ligga - ligga                   :||

When you wanna crossa road, you can be just like the toad
Who hopped out in the middle an' got wasted by a car
Or you can listen what I say and do it a much better way
Think on what you're doin' you can swing on any star
Boom - chah - [chah] - boom - chigga - ligga - ligga  [once only]

STOP! [2 beats] at the pavement edge
(Step on a crack: break your mother's back) [4 beats]
Think Twice! [2 beats] It'll be alright  [4 beats]
(Anything a-comin'? Can you see a car a-comin'?)

When the road's clear we can slip-sliiiiiiiiide it outta here!
Yo! Go!   [4 FULL beats]   Ain't nothin' gonna stop us now
[3 beats]    I said
Yo! Go!   [4 FULL beats]   Ain't nothin' gonna stop us now
[ 3 beats]   I said    rpt ad. lib.

Good fun. Much better than Tufty Club.
