Poem From The Chair In The Old Peoples Home

Jack 81 shares with us the time when he was in his pomp

I worked the mighty docks at Liverpool

Once

Foremen feared me

We’d be out the gate

For a sideways glance

The lads were my lads, family

Flasked tea and early darts

We were the gang

And this was my kingdom

And I was the King

Once

Liked this too. How the mighty have fallen, both Jack and Liverpool. Really liked the cadence of this one. Once punctuated it really well.

Liked this too.

Only nit - "Flasked tea and early darts" though a nice line, seemed out of place to me - no real connection with adjacent lines.

The overall effect is good, very poignant.

Didnt know whether to feel sorry for him because he seemed so alone now or happy that he had gotten to feel Once that he was a king.
Good poem.
