THE BURNING CANDLE

THE BURNING CANDLE

Tragedy strikes

Lives lost

Shock prevails

Nightmare begins

Love lost

Supports snatched away

As tears overflow

Grief stricken hearts cry in silence

Those quarrels

Beautiful loving moments

Smile on the sullen tearful face

Memories haunt endlessly

Burning a candle

Remembering lost lives

A moment of silence

Prayer warms the hearts

The burning wick

Brightens for a while

Spreading solace

In everybody’s hearts

As wax melts away

Slow and steadily

So do memories

Fade, one after another

Life starts to smile once again

Lost lives, lost in oblivion

Just like the burning candle

Melting away in oblivion!

This strikes me as a remembrance of a public tragedy of some kind. Is it tied to a specific event, or is its intention more general?

You have portrayed the effects of tragedies which grasp the human kind & the hope which prevails afterwards with beautiful words.I liked it.

You used a style where each sentence was creating impact....
Tragedy strikes
Lives lost
Shock Begins
Nightmare prevails It really hooked me...

But I also think that after this initial brilliance you could have used different style when the subject turns into hope....You could have used a calmer tone compared to the initial storm.
Just a thought...Not a poet...I liked it anyways............ Regards Remoh

You bring over the feelings that surround tragedy and the aftermath extremely well in your short lines, written with impact. The shock comes when you wake up in the morning and cannot believe what has happened, and wonder if it was just a bad dream. Then comes the day, much later, that the victim of tragedy finds that he is able to smile again at something, and new thoughts fill his mind. You have such tragedy in your country (India) at the moment, and we have seen it on the television. There are millions homeless after the floods. We must give money to our Aid Charities to help - - and yet the tragedy and the lost lives remain. Well written Johnny.
