Four Guys.One Trip.Seven Days

Day 1.....

                                    Chapter Five

                             Saraswathi

"Susu"
"Dont call me that"
"I dont know how to swim.."
"Come on man...you dont know how to swim....you dont know
how to drive a car..where are you from...?"
                  The four of them were walking to the river to have a bath. PS was the one who was nervous about having a bath in the river.

PS:"Come on man....I lived in town my whole life...... how was I suppose to learn?"

Suhail:"Could have joined some swimming pool classes.."

Sanjay:"Chill ok....It's summer season ...the river wont be that deep"

Suhail:"We have been walking for a while..where is Saraswathi?"

             It was a bright Monday morning in Ponmudi. They were  passing  the temple now. The temple was being decorated for the festival which was going to begin on Wednesday.

PS:"It's a beautiful temple...."

Sanjay:"And really old too"

PS:"Let me guess some old Maharaja must have built it   ...some hundreds of years back..."

Sanjay:"Obviously"

Alex:"So can we go in?"

Sanjay:"Let's have a bath first...then when we return we will enter the temple..."

Alex:"Cool"

Suhail:"Cool? Iam not entering"

Sanjay:"Why not?"

Suhail:"Because Iam a Muslim...and it's not right to interfere with someone else's belief..."

Sanjay:"Ha Ha Ha....that's a good one.."

Suhail:"No Iam serious....and Alex I dont think you should enter either..."

Alex:"Forget it man....Iam going inside...."

Suhail:"But..."

Sanjay:"No buts..you are coming.."

Suhail:"If you insist...But listen Sanjay...you believe in something..I believe in something...Alex believes in something...and PS believes in nothing..."

PS:"What?"

Suhail:"You are an atheist right?"

PS:"No Iam not...I once expressed some doubts..."

Sanjay:"We will get back to you PS...Susu continue....."

Suhail:"My point is...We can all pretend that we all believe in the same thing....But the truth is there is a clear cut difference between all these religions...the bottom line is you are a Hindu..Iam a Muslim and Alex is a Christian....The only way we could coexist with each other is by giving space to each other...
not by intermingling with each other..but by being independent...that's what the four of us have been doing for the last four years right..? So in genereral we could say  that..."

PS:"Dude"

Suhail:"Oh..Not cool right...I will stop now..."

Sanjay:(to Alex):"All I asked him was to enter the temple...!!
       *******************************************

"This is my Saraswathi"
                                    They were standing on the banks of river Saraswathi. The river shown bright and was flowing gently. The wind was cool and had the ability to cleanse any spirit.

PS:"It's really beautiful"

Sanjay:"Old too"

PS:"Maharaja made it??"

Sanjay:"Even PS's bad jokes sound good when you stand here don't they?"

Suhail:"It's not at all like our Periyaar back home..That river is polluted to it's extreme.."

PS:"Who cares? Jump into the water..."

Alex:"What's going on? Did you and Suhail switch spirits or something.."

Sanjay:"What are you guys doing? Stop talking and let's go"

Alex:"Yeah Let's swim deep"

PS:"Oh YEs! LEt's get wet!!"

Suhail:"LEt's get wet??? that 's horrible"

PS:"As revealed in a conversation earlier I can't swim remember?"

Suhail:"Ok whatever...Let's go.."

                 In less than a minute they got undressed into briefs and the four embraced the river.
              ***************************************
"Hmmmm...This is good.."
"The Sun shining bright...river cooling us down.."
                            It had been almost close to two hours since the four started spenting time with Saraswathi, the river.None of them talked about stopping their bath.

PS:"I like this..the water is not deep...So I can pretend to swim also....cool.."

"Hello Sanjay Etta"
                             That was Somu. The ten year old son of Sujatha Aunty. The younger brother of Meera.

Sanjay:"Hi Somu....Do you want to have a bath?..."

Somu:"At noon...no thanks.."

Sanjay:"Noon? How long we have been bathing?"

Somu:"Almost two hours...Grandpa asked you to come. Lunch is ready. Grandpa , Mom and Meera Chechi(synonym for elder sister) have left for the town to check the exam results of Chechi."

Sanjay:"Ok we will be there..."

Somu:"Hey Sanjay Etta...You took my toy robot the last time you came here ....Did you bring it?"

Alex:"You took a ten year old boy's toy...?"

Sanjay:"Story for another time.."

Somu:"Did you bring it?"

Sanjay:"Well Somu about that...It is kinda broken..."

Somu:"What?? You are joking right....It was my favourite toy"

Sanjay:"Iam afraid not..it was an accident....It fell off from my hand and then..."

                    At this Somu started crying. Tears came rolling down his cheek.

Sanjay:"Somu please don't cry"

Somu:"But I loved that robot..."

Sanjay:"I promise I will replace it...."

Somu:"How....? Divakar uncle brought it from Gulf...You took it without my consent and now you broke it.."

Suhail:"Not cool Sanju"

PS:"Not at all"

Alex:"Horrible that's the word"

Sanjay:"Shut up..stop pouring petrol into fire....."
         (to Somu): " Somu Iam so sorry..I really Iam..Infact you can punish me and my friends; any way you want and I promise there will be no consequences....."

Alex:"Dude, Don't drag us into this"

Somu:"Seriously..???"

Sanjay:"YEah any punishment, no consequences.."

Somu:"Ok"
                       Somu started to take the clothes which the four kept in the riverbank.

Sanjay:"What are you doing?"

Somu:"You said anything....Now you all walk home wearing briefs.."

Alex:"What???!! NO no...You cant do that ...He is the one who should be punished...!!!"

Somu:"I know....But If I only punish him then you guys will share clothes..also Sanjay Ettan said I could do this to you guys also..."

Sanjay:"Somu don't do this..."

Somu:"You asked for this...."
                   Sanjay ran from the river to grab Somu but he fled and disappeared with the clothes instantly..

Suhail:"Oh my God!! Oh My God !!! He is going to come back right?"

Sanjay:"I doubt it.....HE loved that robot..."

Alex:"Why did you take that robot anyways..?"

Sanjay:"Long complicated story for some other time"

PS:"So what do we do now...?Walk in briefs to home??"

Sanjay:"Actually all of us have towels..WE can wear it around our waist..Then there wont be that much embarassment.."

Alex:"I dont have any towels..I was hoping to use one of your towels"

Sanjay:"Then it's not my fault....You have to walk in your underwear"

Alex:"Forget about it.If Iam going to walk in briefs we all walk in brief"

Sanjay:"Or else what?'

Suhail:"Stop it..with or without towel we cant walk back home..There is temple, a market place, people will kill us..."

Sanjay:"They are going to kill me...Iam a known face around here.."

PS:"So what do we do?"

Alex:"We can wait for Grandpa"

Sanjay:"No good..He has gone to town.....There is only Somu and Chandran in home....Chandran will be busy with work and even if he notice our absence Somu will tell some lies.."

Suhail:"HE is a ten year old....is he that cunning...?"

Sanjay:"The best in the business..seriously.."

Alex:"This is all your fault...Why did you drag us into this?"

Sanjay:"Good thing I did that...Or else I would have been alone in this situation.."

Suhail:"Iam going to kill you...Iam sure you will be alone in that situation...!!"

PS:"So what do we do now.."

Sanjay:"Stop repeating.....There is a way...See that place...With lots of trees...That area belonged to Mr. Panicker....It's a large mass of land....now it is abandoned...There is a way through that place directly to Aanandham...It will take a little bit longer to reach home... but nobody will see us.."

PS:"It looks like a jungle..."

Sanjay:"I know, has been abandoned for a while...."

Alex:"There might be all kinds of creatures inside..."

Sanjay:"What?? Are you scared??Come on.... It's ok...Me and my uncle Divakar used to take this route all the time when I was young.."

Suhail:"All the time?"

Sanjay:"Well sometimes"

Suhail:"Sometimes?"

Sanjay:"OK Ok..I have gone through that path once...But I remember it like yesterday...I know the way..trust me..."

Alex:"Why did you go through this jungle when there was a perfectly normal path.."

Sanjay:"Well then it wasn't a jungle....It wasn't abandoned...Panicker cultivated coconut and other fruits like mango, banana in here..But then one day Panicker was found dead with his wife in a store room inside the property. Since then the rumour has it that the place is haunted.....Hence it is abandoned.."

PS:"Great...!! First it was creatures now we have to deal with ghosts...!"

Sanjay:"You dont believe in God but you believe in ghosts???"

PS:"I do believe in God...IAm sick of people telling me that.."

Sanjay:"Ok so..shall we go now....?"

Alex:"What do you think Susu...?"

Suhail:"Are you sure, Sanju?"

Sanjay:"Tell me a better plan..You dont have one right?"
          :"Come on guys trust me..I know the way..This could be
          fun...finding our wayoutside through a jungle...These are the stuffs with which adventure stories are made ,right PS?"

PS:"I guess so"

Suhail:"Except the protagonists are not always semi nude.."

Sanjay:FUnny stuff Alex,,,,that's the spirit which will keep us going...SOoo???"

Suhail:"LEt's do this...."

Alex:"Ok"

Sanjay:"PS??"

PS:"Ok, ....But if  I  die in there tell the world that PS wasn't   just a nerd..!!"

Sanjay:"Ok then let's go.."

Alex:"Hey SAnju, Why did you take the kid's toy..?"

Sanjay:"I told you it's complicated.."

Alex:Just tell me the truth"

Sanjay:"Because I liked it..."

Alex:"I guessed so.."

     The four climbed the wall and jumped into Panicker's jungle. There were thickly grown plants all over. Sanjay, Suhail, PS wore towels around their waist while Alex was still in brief. They grabbed sticks from a tree to beat the plants to make a way. Thus the journey through the jungle began.
