This Beautiful World
By audrie

I've just dashed this off after reading Oli's work. It needs a lot of work but I felt so strongly about the human race that I wanted to get something on paper.

We have all we need in this beautiful world
If all worked together and all flags were furled.
If children were brought up in love and not hate
As 'children of earth' not of seperate states.

If parents would stop feeding hate into minds
of their precious offspring, perhaps they might find
We could all live together with peace as our aim,
We'd have nothing to lose but so much to gain.

To forget about wars and destruction so blind
And try to remember we're all part of Mankind.
The energy that's wasted, the money, the men
Could be used for good causes, forever, amen.

Be a lifeline for those who just cannot cope
And give succour to people who live without hope.
It makes me so angry the damage they condone
These men who start wars but themselves stay at home.

It's all about ego and money and greed,
let's grab some new land which we really don't need,
But when we invade the oil will be ours,
Never mind the deaths of the women and girls.

Their sons and their husbands are grist to the mill
They train them to murder, to rape and to kill.
What is it with men that they are so aggressive
Love to fight the good fight and be so possessive?

The whole human race seems to have something lacking,
The desire to rise above pillage and sacking.
To live as one race without trouble or sanctions,
To forget all our egotistical assumptions.

We could live life in peace of a permanent kind
No more mangled babies, no bombs, all benign.
No more destruction of earth, air and seas,
Why can't we manage to overcome these

Desperate flaws in the essence of Man
And all live in harmony as best as we can?
If you ask if it's possible, I'd have to decline
To err is just human, and none of us Divine.

There's a fight going on between Evil and Good
And Evil is winning. It's time that we should
Strive harder to raise all the world's consciousness
And unite our minds in a valiant quest.

Let's all try to use the power of thought
And determine to do just what we ought,
And all P. U. L. together and say aloud, or in mind,
Peace, Unity and Love, to all of Mankind.

I am surprised you haven't had some good reviews for your poem, Audrie. I thought it was well thought out, well written, with good rhythm and rhyme. Perhaps it was a little long (for me) - and I think the rhyming went a little wrong in verse 5. Ours and girls don't rhyme. Would something like this be better:

It’s all about ego and money and greed
And grabbing new land - which we really don’t need.
It’s about liberating people, whilst taking their oil –
It’s about showing our strength whilst taking our spoils.

Your thoughts are along my lines, and the lines of others, especially one young man: See my poem above about changing the world, starting with me (you).
