FOUR FRIENDS. ONE TRIP. SEVEN DAYS Chapter Six Panicker’s Jungle“Sanju??” “I can’t take this any more…” “Come on man…we have been only walking for ten minutes…” “It has been an hour!!!!!”
PS:”Look man I am really tired now. Let us rest somewhere.” Suhail:”We are in a jungle PS. God knows what kind of creatures are living here. No rest what so ever.” Alex:”Sanju, I reckon it is at least three now. We have to get out of here soon” Sanju:”Look guys I know what I am doing, all right? There was this small path which directly led to the wall of Aanandham. We just have to jump it and we are home!” Suhail:”A small path? That is what you have been looking for? Look around Sanju. That path must have disappeared a long time ago!!” Sanjay:”Well, not necessarily. Also I remember these two large mango trees which were on the either sides of that pathway. Find those mango trees and we are home!!” Alex:” Man!!! I don’t think I remember the way to get back to the river either.” Suhail:”I don’t either. We are lost” PS:” Oh, God!!”
Thirty minutes later. Suhail:” Sanju, I think your ten minutes are over.” Sanjay:” I know. So what? May be it will take a little bit longer. It doesn’t mean that we are on the wrong path.” PS:”Guys…Look at that Banyan tree. It’s like déjà vu. I have seen that banyan tree somewhere before. May be in last life or something!” Alex:” Not in last life PS. We just saw that tree ten minutes ago. You know what this means Sanju, don’t you?” PS:” We have been going around in circles!!” Sanjay:” Ok now let us not come to conclusions.” Alex:” Sanju…” Sanjay:” Ok I think we are lost.” Suhail:” Great!! Just great!! I have been walking around this jungle semi nude with the ants and mosquitoes feasting on my body and for what? NOTHING!! Could the situation be worse?” And it started raining. PS:” Some one up there is listening to you intently Susu” Suhail:” Ok …So now could the situation be worse?”
Suhail:” Oh come on its summer for Heaven’s sake!!!!” The four started running through the jungle. They were constantly blaming each other during the entire ‘dash’. But mostly the other three targeted Sanjay the whole time. Alex:” Look at that. There is a house.” Sanjay:” That’s not a house. That used to be Panicker’s store house.” The four took shelter under the Panicker’s roof. They found out that the store house was locked. PS:” Saved!!” At this Suhail looked at PS with a perplexed face. PS:” I mean…from the rain...” Suhail:” So what did the Panicker use this store house for?” Sanjay:” Well I don’t really know. One wild guess is for storing things, maybe?” Suhail:” Don’t try to pull that sarcastic humor at me… To store what?” Sanjay: “He used to cultivate things here remember?” PS:” You said he died in this land, right?” Sanjay:” Yes, with his wife. I told you , They were found dead inside this store room.” PS:” Oh my God” Alex:” Jesus!!” Sanjay:” Yes my brothers; we are standing in front of a room which was once the centre of attention of Ponmudi.” PS:” So, what happened?” Sanjay:” There has been many rumors. The general hypothesis is that Panicker & his wife committed suicide. But no body knows for sure.” PS:” Bullshit! Why would any rich person do that? I am sure both of the deaths were cold blooded murders.” Suhail:” Oh my God!! PS, I think you are right. It’s Monday today and we are leaving on Saturday. You have got less than six days to solve the mystery!!” PS:” I know!!! Very interesting right?” Alex:” PS He was being sarcastic...” PS:” Oh, It’s a good thing that I don’t get his sarcastic comments most of the times.” Suhail:” I don’t see any signs of the rain stopping.” Thirty more minutes later. The four were still sitting on the steps in front of the store room. PS:” Have you seen Panicker?” Sanjay:” Yes. But I only remember vaguely.” PS:” Was he a calm person?” Sanjay:” Yes I guess so.” PS:” And what about his wife?” Sanjay:” Never seen his wife.” PS:” Any other relatives?” Sanjay:” I remember that he had a brother.” PS:” Children?” Sanjay:” None” PS:” And what about…” Suhail:” SHUT UP!!!!!!!!” He couldn’t take it any more. PS:” What’s the matter?” Suhail:” You are getting on my nerves with your stupid investigation Georgina…!” Alex:” Georgina?” PS:” It’s a character from Famous Five…So you read the book, don’t you Susu?” Suhail:” I have read one book and that was a long time ago.” PS:” If you really want to call me Georgina. Then call me George, that’s better.” Suhail:” Oh lord, why are you testing my patience?” PS:” Why do you treat me like this?” There was a serious note to PS’s voice. Suhail:” What?” PS:” You know that I say and do these things just for fun and Yes! Iam a nerd. But that’s who I am. Sanjay and Alex don’t have a problem with it.” Suhail:” Do you think I have a problem…?” PS:” Yes I do. From the moment I told you guys I wanted to come to this trip you have been acting all weird… As if you didn’t want me to come…” Suhail:” What are you talking about?” Alex:” Come on PS. Susu was just pulling your legs…We all do that to each other.” PS:” Yes but its different when he does it… Its like he doesn’t like me or something…” PS’s voice was now trembling a little bit. His eyes were also becoming wet. Suhail:” Don’t be ridiculous PS… If you remember correctly I was the one who was nicer to you these four years… You were nothing less than a brother … You know what…I don’t think I have to do this... May be you need to grow up a little bit more…” There was an uncomfortable silence for few seconds. Alex was the one to break it. Alex:” Rain is stopping” Sanjay:” Yeah let’s go…” ***************************************** “There is the wall…!!!” “I told you we were on the right track.” After a forty five minute long quest through the jungle the four had finally reached the ‘Great Wall’. Alex:” Before we jump I want PS and Susu to shake their hands…” Suhail:” What? There is no need…” PS:” Yes, We are not in kindergarten!!” Alex:” It has been an hour since you guys have talked to each other…!” Suhail:” That’s our wish and will!” Alex:” Look Susu you know that I didn’t want to come to this trip in the first place… Now that I have come I don’t want any stupid quarrels over petty issues…” PS:” Petty issues…? “ Suhail:” I don’t get this… Alex you think that you are dealing with a great tragedy… Do you think that we don’t have bigger problems…? “ Sanjay:” Come on guys…” Suhail:” Alex, you only have a stupid girl trouble which nobody cares about…” Alex:” Stupid…?” Sanjay:” Oh Boy…” Suhail:” Well… I am sorry…I…” Alex:” Shut up …all right… I thought you were my best friend…” Alex jumped the wall saying this. The other three followed. Sanjay went inside Aanandham and brought clothes for everyone. Grandpa wasn’t home yet. Somu came running to Sanjay. Somu:” Where were you Sanju Ettaa… I came back with the clothes ten minutes later…And you all were gone… I only wanted to scare you for a while…” Sanjay:” Its ok Somu…” Somu:” Really?” Sanjay:” Yes” Somu:” You will not tell Grandpa about this…” Sanjay:” No I won’t” Somu:” Thank you so much” Somu hugged Sanjay. Somu:” How did you get back?” Sanjay:” Panicker’s jungle” Somu:” Are you serious? That is so dangerous…Was it fun?” Sanjay:” No Somu…” Sanjay looked at his three friends who were inside the room. Alex was busy doing something in his mobile. PS was reading a book.Suhail was looking outside the window. All were in the same room but they avoided each other. Sanjay:” Walking through that jungle was a big mistake.” to be continued
