Lying under shady trees,
Thinking of the things we do.
Trying to make some sense of it,
Loving, hating, me and you.
Thinking of the hopes and doubt
That fills us all, no matter who.
Wondering what it's all about
In this our earthly, human zoo.
Are we specimens to be watched,
Moved like pawns in some strange game?
Are we masters of our fate,
Do we choose to fight and maim?
Shall we ever know what waits
Beyond the barrier of time?
Is it really our own wish
To make blood flow like ruby wine?
Is the fight for good or evil
Carried on beyond these shores?
Are we but a minute part
Of gigantic cosmic wars?
Are we playthings of the gods
Tossed and turned for their delight,
Never knowing what is coming
From the shadows of the night?
Can we really pay the piper
Call the tune in our own way?
Do the dreadful things we do
To each other every day?
Human's made in God's own image
Fearful deeds done in His name.
Are you watching, our dear maker,
Or is your head bowed down in shame?

We all have these questions. They range from close at home questions to far wider flung ones. They start with: When children offer to do something for what seems to be your own good, should we look a step further and discover that it leads more towards something that they want for themselves? I often find myself manipulated in the most clever ways. All parents will know this feeling. Then there is the wider questions including: What prevented me from being there at that time and place. Why was I spared the tragedy that befell others? Why do my prayers get answered whilst other people's dont?t etc etc. You could ask these questions to eternity and back. Excellent writing too Audrie with very precise rhythm and rhyme. | Thank you, Written by audrie (475 comments posted) 26th August 2007 | for your comments. I have been expecting a bit if a rant from dear old Oli, as I have mentioned God in it!!! No, Jellyacey, the line was in because we are all animals, aren't we? Some of us more 'beastly' than others! Glad you liked it. audrie | PS Written by audrie (475 comments posted) 26th August 2007 | | Aren't you lucky, Josie, to have had your prayers answered! | Written by Josie (4035 comments posted) 27th May 2009 | | When are we going to get any more good poems like this one Audrey?
