Quaking Aspens
By doxiemom13
25 August 2007

I spent too brief of a moment in time selfishly listening to these glorious trees at work doing what they do. I don't do them justice.

why does the aspen quake?
is it because she knows whose breath makes her quiver?
is it the secretive harboring of an animal in need of shelter?
or is it her empathetic shiver of branches at a lovers' union?
for whatever reason, who is to deny her the applause of her leaves?

I'm afraid that I don't know why, but enjoyed your various reasons. Welcome to Great Writing. Do keep writing because I enjoyed reading your first piece.

I'm not a poet and seldom understand or appreciate it but sometimes a line or phrase will jump out at me and here :-
"who is to deny her the applause of her leaves?"
seemed to me to stand out,not even sure why but it was a nice turn of phrase, powerful and vivid.
cheers
