Poetry
Uncertainty

My future is at the whim of authority figures, not for the first time in my miserable life. They prevaricate.  They delay.

It seems that these people play games with our emotions, needlessly drawing out the processes, and taking great pleasure in keeping us suspended on tenterhooks.

Worse still, they cause poor poetry to be writ in frustration!

B***ards!

Oli

Wise men say, or are they so?

That what will be will be

Others wiser still,  say no

We steer our destiny

Yet save me from the man who says

Ahem, maybe, maybe

Curses on the cur who leaves

A doubt where none should be

I find myself no comfort

Astride a barbed fence

At toss of coin, or roll of dice

A bagatelle of chance

Frustration from my life begone

I crave hard certainty

No more for me the role of pawn

Sweet yes or no for me!

Didn't read like poor poetry to me. In fact it puts into words similar feelings of my own.

Perhaps the enforced wait bolsters their own sense of power over us. After all, how else are the 'maybe' men and women going to influence our lives?

Waiting is often a simple political strategy - if you delay long enough, some problems solve themselves. Frustrated employees give notice, complainants who are not really committed give up and forget about it.

Good stuff as usual Oli. What an image - "astride a barbed fence". OOch. Nearly as bad as astride an electric fence - one of these days I'll tell you all the tale of the walker, the footpath, the cow and the electric fence ... actually, I think you can imagine it.

Liked it!

And I can certainly empathise with your plea!

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, is my advice
