In the name of procrastination, I skived off all the creativity I had planned last night and wrote a second "Sixties Theme" ditty instead of what I should have been doing .... perhaps this was a mistake, I don't know! Comments appreciated!
Second Wind
I waaannnnaaaa be free! That's what we used to say: Free as a bird! Bird on a Wire! Wired for Sound! The Sound of Silence! The singers and the songs of the dawning of the Age of Aquarius Soundbites of a youth which has slowly ebbed away from us
The Age of Peace and Love, transcending human Understanding We thought would bring us Happiness, and be so undemanding Go back to Nature! Find your Inner Self! Run naked in the woods! Go Veggie! Decide to be an Elf!
Alas! The British weather has conspired To keep us all more sensibly attired My Inner Self decided she didn't want to be ‘outed' And "You Veggies just want to gobble up my home!" my Elf friend pouted
The Flower Power of the golden years so long ago Was slowly choked, a garden untended where weeds of a baser nature took root Peace and Love become so ‘last week', and Punk is born The bastard child of a tone-deaf thrasher and a groupie girl who thinks he's cute
I hear around me Technobabble: House, Garage, Hip-hop, Rap And other labels, just as daft, for different types of CRAP But half the music in the charts - possibly even more Seem to be "Cover Versions" of songs I've heard before
It's said "What goes round, comes around" and yes, that's probably true For these "covers" in today's charts are those which we once knew Heard late at night on Luxemburg's fade-in, fade-out pop plays Or Caroline (the Isle of Man's best export) - happy days!
But if the boy bands of today have talent, let them show it! As far as I'm concerned, record buyers ought to know it Don't make videos! Play guitars! Write your own songs: DON'T STEAL OURS!
