Well, chapter 4... tell me whatcha think =]

Luci Saturday, 11:00pm

Cole was holding my hand as we walked out to his truck. He was always such a sweetheart. I got in on his side and scooted to the middle seat so I could still be close to him. He kissed me before he started the truck.

“Happy birthday, baby. I love you.” I smiled.

“I love you, too.” He pulled out of the parking lot and wrapped his arm around me. He turned right, going away from town. I laid my head against his shoulder. “We going to the church?” He nodded. The church was our main hangout aside from Pizza Hut. It was huge, never locked, and next to a cemetery. Perfect to get away from reality. “Cole?”

“Yeah, angel?”

“You know what I want for my birthday?”

“What, baby?” I held up my left hand.

“Maybe, just maybe, a gorgeous little princess cut diamond ring? Right here? To go on my pretty little finger?” He laughed.

“You’ll get your ring someday, baby.”

“Mmhmm…” I laid my head back down. Two years and he hadn’t even mentioned marriage. It wasn’t gonna happen… I knew better. And if we were going nowhere, why was I with him…? He pulled into the church’s driveway. We got out and walked inside. He pulled me to one of the middle pews and sat down. I was avoiding his eyes.

“Baby?” He pulled my legs up in his lap.

“Cole?” He ran his hand up my calf.

“Yeah?”

“Are we going anywhere?”

“Huh?”

“I can’t see you committing. I wanna be with someone that wants to move forward with me. Nto someone that wants to stay still…”

“Luc, what are you saying?” I paused.

“I wanna break up.” His hand dropped.

“W-what?? … Why?”

“You won’t commit after two fucking years!”

“Oh, I won’t?” I shook my head. “What the fuck is this then?” He chunked a small box onto my lap and stood up. I opened it as he stormed out of the church. It was an amazingly beautiful princess cut diamond… exactly what I always wanted. I felt like dirt. I closed the box and headed outside. Cole was sitting on the front bumper of his truck. He was digging the toe of his shoe into the loose dirt.

“Cole…?”

“Get in the truck. I’ll take you home.” I obeyed, but got in on my own side. The entire 20 minute drive, he didn’t say a word. When he pulled into my driveway, I handed him the box. Tears stung my eyes. To my surprise though, he wouldn’t take it. “It’s your ring, Luci.”

“But--”

“No buts. I don’t want it back.” I leaned over to kiss him, but he turned away. “Bye, Luci.”
