Pigeon Man

Propped against the gate he stands

His miner's hands clasping

To counteract the dizziness

Staring skywards, his gaze

Arcing, like wartime searchlight

Following the morphing squadron

Now arrow, now curve, now square

Pride and wonder in his eyes

His smile, his heart

The tight formations

Like iron filings drawn

By a giant magnet behind

A blue paper sky

Funnel at last to the loft

Enjoyed thid Olli.
So descriptive that if I was an artist I could paint the picture.
Liked the last verse especially

I really liked this! So descriptive. You brought me right beside him. Great writing!

Your poetry seems to go through cycles. Periods of introspection, emotion, outrage, and now description. Actually, description is always a pretty strong element in your work, but your last few have been more so. I'm not trying to categorise you Oli, just something I've noticed. (And as ever, I could be completely wrong!)

The poem: not much to say really. Liked it very much. Man, to birds, to sky, to loft. Worked really well. All the elements tied in to the whole. Even though we're left with the birds in their loft - it's the image of the proud old guy
that remains. More I think, the more I like.

You set me thinking - I have no signature style, has it yet to develop? Or perhaps we should always write in various styles?

I am only a wannabe poet, and almost certainly not clever enough to develop a style all of my own. So, as I do not write in a vacuum, I am affected by what I may be reading, what is happening in my life etc. etc. That is about all I can say on the stylistic trends in my doggerel.

Thanks as always for the undeserved praise and the though provocation.

Oli :)

That was supposed to be "thought provocation" in case the typo/spello man is about
