Evening

First poem wot I ever wrote,

Sinnerman

I stand watching, from your birth

A shadow, while you walk this earth

A whisper that cannot be heard

A waking dream, obscure and blurred.

I have no memory, judge no crime

I know no age, am of no time

I have no ears to hear your pleas

Nor eyes, to see you on your knees

Past your hope and desperate prayer,

You will find me standing there

I'm here watching while you flee,

Knowing you run straight to me.

My embrace is never felt,

Until, revealed, the hand once dealt

I make no bargain, cannot be bought

All endeavour counts for nought

In the blackness, here I wait

Your fearless and unyielding fate.

I didn't like this poem too much Don. Sorry. It was too long without divided verses. However, this is only my opinion. I'm not too sure that I believe in fate as I think we humans, to a large extent, make our own destinies - but then I can say that living in a country like this. If I was living in one of the poor African countries, I might feel differently. Can they change their fate?

Nice idea. Belief in fate aside, it worked through the ideas well. How old were you when you writ this one?

Not sure I believe in fate either but liked this all the same. Very strong and well structured in rhythm and rhyme, and a daunting idea, personifying fate like that , like the way that Death is sometimes portrayed.

I especially like:
"I'm here watching while you flee,
Knowing you run straight to me." sent a chill down my spine. Wicked!
