Poetry
To A Poet
By Faerieanna
13 September 2007
An older one of mine, posting inspired by Josie's "From Nursery Rhymes to Psalms".

I have noticed that writing about writing is not always well received on here but I think this is one of my best so am willing to take a chance... ( I am told it could also be read in a broader context, a comment on life...). As always, constructive feedback welcome.

There will be fertile times
When your poetry is the source
Within you
All the fire in your soul
And your life is either
So wild you can’t contain it
Or so enchanted
You forget it’s real.

There will be barren times
When your poetry is merely
An aside
A shut pocket in your soul
And your life is either
So cluttered you can’t find it
Or so empty you forget to look.

I enjoyed this one FA - I happen to belong to the second stanza right now and am hoping it's only because my life is "so cluttered I can't find it". Nice concept.
Well said, Anna

In a nutshell, the fertile times are often when writers and artists are psychologically suffering inside. Writing and painting can be release valves. The barren times are when your poetry "is merely an aside - a shut pocket in your soul." Absolutely right! I couldn't have put it better. What a wonderful way you have with words Anna.
I know the feeling!

I think anyone who writes can sympathise with this one! Really well worded, I enjoyed reading it.

I liked the sentiments. I suspect you'll be amongst friends with this one! (a life so empty you forget to look is an interesting phrase, maybe so empty you cannot find it?) I think writing abouy writing can be as interesting as writing about anything else. (Hope you'll never be put off posting for fear of what others might think)

Best wishes
