Eternal student

Another haiku. Actually wanted to do a non-fiction piece, but that didn't work. Gosh, am I going to miss being a student...

Forever learning
Always gathering knowledge
That is paradise

I think it's good to be an eternal student Fledermaus. When you stop learning you can tell yourself that you really are dead. The more you study, the less you seem to know.

Thanks Josie.
I supose my problem is I'm addicted to student life and universities ;) I don't want to grow up. If they have an uni in Neverland, I'll begin to believe in Peter Pan right now :p

Every day's a school day. And I don't mean just for the likes of me.

I know more now than I ever thought there was to know. I also know that I know virtually nothing in the greater scheme of things. Josie's right, the more you discover, the more you realise you need to know and that actually you don't know very much at all.

Does Donald Rumsfelt (sp?) come to mind?

What I'm trying to say is: formal education is a wonderful thing, but life and experience continue to reveal more knowledge, truth and questions (particularly questions) than could ever be contemplated in a classroom.

What phil said reminds me of something Terry Pratchett points out. In one of his books he mentions that the walls of the unseen university are themselves filled with knowlage; after all, students go in believing they know everything and leave realising they know nothing at all, so presumably the knowlage goes somewhere!!!

I know that was completeley irrelevant but hey!

Its a good haiku, and it basically says it all!

Dear Batty

That's how our government put it in the UK. Why stop?

I'm 41 and I'm starting a new degree course next Monday.

Night classes, distance learning/correspondence courses, online learning, reading, the university of life...it never stops, thank providence.

Oli :)

Wow, thanks everyone.
Of course you're all right. Life is all learning. Yet somehow book-knowledge seems... safer ;)
