I'd like to go to winter for writing
By andybyers
22 September 2007
I'd like to go to winter for writing
to open up its greys
and seat myself at its cold table
boiling over with ice
and let the snows dance and whirl
Whisper to me what to say

Summer does not want writing
no,
she wants to grab you by the hand
and run off with you
strip you naked and fill your time
and smile at the pen nib, gone to rust

I'd like to go to winter for writing
But it's by appointment only.

On a purely personal note, I'd rather be striooed naked by summer. Having said that, I've written very little over the last few months. The analogy doesn't really work though. We've not had a summer over here - just days of rain and overcast skies.

Clever end.

Enjoyed,

Phil.

Probably you were too busy being stripped naked. :)

You must have had our rain. Was a very dry summer over here.

Now I'm in for it! Borrowed your poem to write words of my own - (note, words different to your own Andy). Look on this as a compliment for I did so much enjoy reading your poem, and I have to agree that when the rain and wind are raging outside, it's better to stay in and write a poem. When the sun is calling from outside, it's difficult to concentrate the mind.

Considering I live in summer year round, I must say i often find myself carried away in the sun indeed! And winter indeed can bring some inspiration! I like the poem and have to agree it is a clever ending!
