Movers and Shakers!
By audrie
27 September 2007

This is not a poem, at least not one of mine, alas, but it always makes me cringe when I hear the term 'movers and shakers' to indicate a brash, dynamic go-getter.

As you will see from the original phrase, is had quite the opposite meaning when written by O'Shaughnessy.

We are the music makers,
We are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea breakers
And sitting by desolate streams.
World losers and world forsakers
On whom the pale moon gleams.
Yet, we are the movers and shakers
Of the world forever, it seems.
