The Rain Fairies (A poem for children)
By Josie
29 September 2007

Things don't really change, and especially human nature.  Ask a class if they like "make-believe" and they still know what that is.  It is a little "comfort zone" in their lives - a world of magic things - witches, fairies, magicians, elves etc.  Yes, they may have learnt in science about the truth behind the rain that falls, but just sometimes they will enjoy hearing that fairies gallop across the sky on clouds in a secret world of make-believe.  .

            They ride upon the stormy clouds
               That journey on the winds –
            Six rain fairies on clouds of white
               With lovely colourful wings.

            Thunder claps and lightning strikes
               Then as the rain comes down.
            Six rain fairies on clouds white
               Look down upon our town.

            They hide behind the rainbow;
               They shelter in the mist –
            High up where you can’t see them
               That’s where they all exist.

            We couldn’t do without them -
               They send rain for living things –
            Some rain to make our rivers flow
                And give us flowers in spring;

            Rain to grow our vegetables.
               For the water that we drink;
            The fairies send the water down
                That comes running in our sink.

            Thank God for little rain fairies
               And all the work they do.
            You may not see them in the sky
               But they certainly see you.

lovely Josie - I'm a huge fan of fairies myself, I have several dancing on my rockery (sadly they magic themselves back to resin whenever I go outside)

I really enjoyed this poem though and so did my daughter. :)
