An unfortunate event.

My plums are red and swollen
It’s not because they’re ripe,
But rather an unfortunate incident
With a man and a length of pipe.

I hope this isn't a personal story. It sounds very painful. Made me laugh, though, which isn't very polite.

Sorry I just don't get this. It must be beyond me. Not my sort of poem. 
Did you go back to the greengrocers and get some more?

You just don't have the wherewithall(s) to appreciate this Jane. A little research should see you right. I know they have plums in Nottingham. My great-grandfather comes from those parts - as I, indirectly, from his.
