Boat race

Terrible Spoonerism, allegedly perpetrated inadvertently by announcer Charlotte Greene of the BBC ... in response to Phil's "pole dancing cherry".

Three boats out of Dover were having a race.
The tug to the dinghy said, “Is that a wherry?”
The third’s instant rage wiped the smile from his face.
“Oh, no,” said the dinghy, “a cross flannel cherry.”

Ha ha - very good. I love the idea of a cross flannel cherry. Something to wear on your chest during winter months I expect.

Glad my 'poetry' inspires something.

Old Spike would have enjoyed this one.

Spoonerisms have been favourites of mine since I was very young , when I learned the difference between a war horse and a cart horse.

Possibly the best committed on air in Oz came from one of our highly ( and rightly so ! ) respected newsreaders -- James Dibble, who solemnly announced that person X had been bitten on the funnel by a finger-web spider* There may be others more vulgar by far but he has never lived that one down.
