Secrets

This about someone who is one the verge of telling someone a secret but doesn't want to. I have been in this experience and have eventually told my secret with help from a lot of peer pressure.

There's somehting I need to tell you,
but I don't know if I can.
I need your help,
but I can't say what with.
I have these secrets.
I hold them close to my heart.
They mean alot to me,
and I don't want you to laugh.

If I tell you, and only if.
You have to promise not to tell anyone.
Not a single soul.
Not even your mother.
You mean alot to me,
And I don't want that to change.
We are having fun,
And I don't want that to change.

I'm not sure how you will react.
It's not serious, don't worry.
But i don't want it to change what we have.
It's tearing me up not telling you,
Not telling someone, anyone,
But especially not you.
I will only tell if you promise not to laugh.
I will only tell you if it doesn't change what we have.

Okay then, I will.
But you have to lean close.
Really close so not another ear can hear.
Don't pull away untill I have told it all.
Don't say a word untill I have told you all.
I'm sorry if it hurts you,
but it has to be done.
Right here goes.

Okay, you built up the suspense and trapped the reader. Effective in that, but disappointing in the end, as all situations like this tend to be. As I was reading this, I did wonder if it would have been better as prose, but I guess you delivered what you set out to do.
