Blackpool, unemployed Local Youths

Skipping stones,
skipping stones yer say,
have yer nowt else to do lad
then skipping stones.

I tried Dad, I really tried,
but I was not that bright
at school,
now the jobs are hard to come by,
I don't speak the lingo Dad
I don't speak the lingo,
so I spend my time
skipping stones.

"I tried Dad, I really tried,"
he lied, "but in school I am a flop.
So now I spend all my time
Smashing up this bus stop."

Essex, unemployed Youths. I think that I'd rather have yours!

All the best,
Steve.

What can I say, your right , but this does not detract from this what s about, not that long ago in Blackpool the local youths would get jobs in the summer on the rides etc, no more, every year the town is infested by our " new friends" from eastern europe, no jobs for local lads

good point made in the poem Bernie, again a nice, concise touch. It's the old story, isn't it. You employ the best man for the job. We see a lot of Polish boys working here. Maybe the European boys are more willing and reliable than the locals - hungrier and less pampered?

I may be naive but when I think of all the wonderful books in libraries, that these kids could read and journey to other places, get involved in working out thrillers, get such enjoyment out of it, instead of wasting their lives being destructive.

Parents have a lot to answer for!

I laughed out loud! But at Steve's review - sorry Bernie.

By the way, Bernie, do you ever take a look at your messages?

I recently heard a story of a shoemaker in ancient China, who was poor, but curious. He asked the local kids to teach him one character every day, and eventually grew out to be one of the greatest scholars in the empire... One doesn't have to be Einstein to achieve something. And if reading and writing isn't one's strongest points, there are enough other things to be done...

Nice poem... I still can't skip stones...
