The new building 1

Maybe some new characters can bring new life to the village? I really hope more people are going to write Village-related stuff. Don't be affraid: It's a great sandbox for your creative writing. It could range from Bagheera's mysterious French spies to Brook's love triangles to Patterjack's Peter and lady Helen to my paparazzi and ancient skelletons.
If you don't know who is who, don't worry. You'll find out eventually or you could read Patterjack's 'The census taker'.

The Villagers had protested initially, but the deal was already made and the Village council tried to sell it to them as an economic opportunity. More people meant more consumers and hence the influx of new people would mean good business opportunities for the local shop owners.
Fred West and Tanya had doubted if those students would prefer their pub over one of those trendy clubs in the Town, and the few landlords and -ladies feared that the new building would be unfair competition.
" You aren't going to move there", mrs. George had asked Peter Jack, but he had laughed and told her he wouldn't even be allowed if he wanted to.
Yet mrs. Day hadn't been so somber about the prospects.
" They're all young people you see, and young people have a habit of falling in love, so they'll need flowers."
And when the archeology students had arrived to dig up the skeleton on the Nascent estate, it turned out they weren't as untidy and snobbish as many Villagers had thought.
F.C. had smirked and told them: " We aren't afraid to make our hands dirty, but just wait till you see law students."
Yet she had laughed when she said it, so the Villagers assumed she joked.

And so it befell that a building began to grow in the green fields next to the highway. Every day it grew taller and wider, until one day one of the builders placed the Union Jack on top of it. From that day onwards, it began to look more and more like a real building and eventually the day came that it was officially opened by the mayor. Kirsten Andersen took pictures for the local newspaper and sergeant Bagheera guarded the ceremony with a grim face, for he feared more naked hippies now that those city-wellers were coming to town.

The ribbon was cut, the champagne was sipped and the new inhabitants were allowed in.

I think you are flogging a dead horse with this one. Why don't you start a completely new story - different characters and different scene? Maybe set it in Holland. I think maybe you would get some of us to contribute to that, but I really don't think I could find the interest to even read about these people again, much less write something for them.

Hi Jean. I'm afraid so, and indeed it might be a good idea to start all over again. The Village has gotten too complicated.
As for starting my own thing: I have had the idea to do that for a long time now, but somehow it never realy got off. I have the characters and the setting, but no story. Hence I hoped I could use the Village as a playground to experiment a little.

There was a soap in the U a while ago. It bombed. It was set in a small village full of expatriot Brits somewhere in Spain - 'Eldorado.' To tie all the loose ends up when the producers knew it could go no further, they just blew the whole place up. Perhaps The Village could be a target for Al Quaeda.

Hi Phil.
Hm... It's a pity the Village seems to have died a slow death... :(
