I'm sorry if this upsets the pro choice group, but I've just been reading about abortion and the horrific way it is done.
When I was two and a half months pregnant with my second child, I got Rubella, or German Measles. I worked with a girl whose sister was blind and retarded because her mother had caught it when she was two months pregnant.
Everybody wanted me to have an abortion, and this was forty five years ago, from the consultants to various doctors, family, etc. but I just could not do it. I was terrified but I could not take that little life.
Fortunately for me, he turned out to be a fine and healthy 10lb baby, and couldn't be better as a son. He has a very good executive job in Japan, and speaks the language fluently, also Spanish, French, Mandarin, and Canton. So you see, I was right not to have extinguished him just because he might have proved difficult to raise.
I could weep for all the little ones whose lives are just torn away.
Welcome to Britain if you want your baby murdered
Even if it's five months old and happily sucking on its thumb.
We'll have it torn right out of you, in pieces,
Since it's just an inconvenience to its Mum. |

I'm not surprised you have such strong feelings as you have had a close call yourself. I'm glad you made the right decision. I'm not convinced though, that it is always quite so black and white. | Inconvenience Babies Written by Josie (2785 comments posted) 13th October 2007 | | Some babies are inconvenience babies before they're born and some seem to be after they're born. For me, I could not imagine how empty my life would be without my two little grandchildren - and I could no more think of any child as anything but a wonderful gift. It might be different though if I had been raped at 12 years of age - but it's not the baby's fault even in that case. What a painful subject. | Written by Fledermaus (3281 comments posted) 13th October 2007 | I'm not objective, as I'm probably on your side. If you don't want babies, then don't have sex. It's as simple as that. I'm probably also that blunt about it because of the paternalistic attitude of some pro-choice advocates, who meddle with the business of cultures and religions not their own. A clear piece. | Poetry? Written by Bottleblondesurfer (3351 comments posted) 13th October 2007 | I don't object to your opinion, though I think it is too simplistic but if I was a poet I would object to propaganda being presented as poetry. There is a difference. Surely there must be some parameters that mark out poetry, or is anything a poem if you call it one??? Jane | Thank you all Written by audrie (451 comments posted) 14th October 2007 | for your comments. I do realise that I was very upset and angry when I wrote it and overly assertive. Of course, it's never black and white, there are times when it is necessary, but it seems these days that it is being used as a form of contraception. Of the 200,000 abortions carried out last year only 2% were for critical health reasons. That is what I object to. I don't think one has to go without sex, that would bring the house down, but there is no reason for people to get pregnant if they don't want to. They need a bit more self control, that's all! As Josie said, even when raped it isn't the baby's fault and there are numerous couples wanting a baby, but it would be understandable if the girl wanted rid of anything that would remind her of such an awful experience. It seems that Britain is the one place that will do an abortion up to 24 weeks, most countries insist on 12 weeks. Of course 24 weeks sounds better than 6 months. when the baby is fully formed! And it won't come out in one piece because the stretching process has not begun. Is it poetry? From what I have seen on these pages you could ask that of any number of the writings that appear! As for propaganda, I'm not trying to bring down the government, (much as I would like to!) I'm merely stating facts. I grant you these are facts that nobody wants to face. Better to pretend it is just a 'foetus' and not a human being. | Strong words Written by sandra_harrison (5 comments posted) 16th October 2007 | Wow, strong piece. If you can't express yourself through poetry, then what's the point? Bravely written Audrie. | Thanks, Written by audrie (451 comments posted) 16th October 2007 | Sandra. I just wanted to wake people up to what is happening to these innocents. The vast numbers are swept under the carpet and I think there should be a stand against the length of time a baby can stay in the womb before being torn out. Personally, I think if they have to have abortions then it should only be done for medical reasons and shouldn't be done after 12 weeks, as most of Europe specifies.
