Empty Roads

one of the joys of driving in Afghanistan, basic security awareness

Stop! if you find
the road ahead empty,
no traffic signals danger,
empty roads mean death,
maybe yours?
Stop! turn around
head for home and safety?

Liked the question at the end. This one didn't (for me) have the emotional immediacy of the others. Had I ever visited Afganistan - I probably wouldn't think that.

Strikes me as highly metaphoric for the Western efforts in Afghanistan. Probably the same advice was given to the Soviets... seems to me that, finally, they took it. :)

Anyone who has red 'The Kite Runner' (marvellous book)knows that the Taliban need to be overcome, but not by our troops.

We have no place in either Afghanistan or Iraq.

I heard that in Iraq more people die of traffic accidents than of the violence. Yet in Afghanistan that might be different. Smart piece.

Thanks Fledermaus, no idea of the accident rate in Afghanistan, doubt if they keep them.
