Rhymes, songs and magic Spells from Astrantian Tales. (children’s stories)

The Enchantment of Callistephus

Columbine and Comfrey
Into the pot, with
Snake-Weed and Willowherb
And whatever I've got

Hog Weed and Borage
May give him a fright
But Purslane and Lovage
Will set the boy right

Pearlwort and Scabious
May cause him some grief
But Woodrush and Honesty
Will transform this thief

He will be not the same
By night or by day
Throw in, for good measure
Pennisetum and Bay

A Royal Invitation

Tonight we have four guests

But our guests are very shy

They hide behind the bushes

I can't help wonder why

One of them is golden

Another one has wings

One has very sharp teeth

But their leader walks with kings

Perhaps they'd like some food and drink

There's plenty here to spare

Whatever they would like

We would be very glad to share

So come three loyal comrades

Come fearsome, but kingly beast

We wish to make you welcome

Please come and join our feast

Asperula's Rainbow Mix

First Hog Weed and Borage

Go into the pot

(I must get some more

Because I use them a lot)

Then Hawk Weed, for Orange

And Curds Dart for Blue

And King Cup for yellow

What a colourful brew

Now, Hair Grass for indigo

Hart's-tongue for green

And a sprig of fresh nettle

To keep the pot clean

That leaves Columbine for Violet

And Poppy for red

Give a really good stir, and

Then straight off to bed

The Soldier Boy

There was a fearsome soldier

Who fought in foreign lands

His sword was made of iron, and

His spears were tipped with bronze

He fought for truth and freedom

He fought with all his might

And his enemies, they feared him

For he slew them left and right

But the soldier, he was wounded

And so, sailed back across the sea

He sailed home to his mother

And she sat him on her knee

For the soldier, he was just a boy

And his wound was just a graze

But no tears stained this solder's cheeks

For he was very brave

Dicentra's Invitation

This cave, it is so very old

It's lake, so deep and clear

But visitors are welcome

They have no need to fear

In days gone by, so many came

To my feast upon the shore

And when the feasting, it was done

Not one would ask for more

So come now, to the water's edge

It's almost time to dine

If you enjoy my hospitality

Then the pleasure will be all mine

For my name, it is Dicentra

And this is my domain

And all who enter here, my friends

Are welcome to remain

The Making of a Unicorn

A baby goat was heard to say

"I'd like to be a horse one day"

Said a rabbit who was hopping by

"Ah yes, my dear, and pigs might fly"

A billy goat was heard to wish

For a sword that he could thrust and swish

Said an eagle flying overhead

"You must make do with horns, instead"

A nanny goat was heard to say

"I wish I were as beautiful as the day"

Said a donkey who was standing near

"But your wish will not come true, I fear"

But a wizard who had heard each wish

Just waved his wand and then said this

"I'll grant your wishes, but if I do

You must forever drink the morning dew"

The Cerberus

Don't frighten the children lying in their beds

With tales of a hound that has three heads

A cerberus that prowls on silent paws

Then pounces and bites with three sets of jaws

Don't frighten the children to send them to sleep

Don't frighten the children, for if they should weep

The cerberus may come, and as everyone knows

He'll bite off their fingers, and bite off their toes

Thanks guys, though this isn't what I had in mind - you were supposed be intrigued by the poems, then skip over to the kids section and read some of the stories.

But glad you liked 'em.
There you are Ian

I told you that you would enthral! Good judgement! Well done. I think, though, that each poem should have had it's own place on the website. Too many posted together, but well worth the reading.
