Poetry
Nostalgia
By Fledermaus
23 October 2007
Got an e-mail this morning. The student organization of the Celtic Departement of the uni organizes an eisteddfod. I graduated just  few months ago, but I already miss it. The only thing I regret is that I never learned more than a few words of Modern-Irish or -Welsh...

Old ghosts come back to haunt me
But their voices are so sweet
How I already miss them
Days of studying Irish
And trying to read Old-Welsh
Poetry competition
Though they call it differently
An Eisteddfod eh? I laugh
Poetry about the Celts
I then browse through my old work
Find two clumsy limericks
In some strange sort of Irish
And a lot of retold myths
They have to set a limit
Or else I will send it all
I send spam, nostalgic spam

Sláinte mhaith a chomrádaí scoile, that we may soon drink together again.

Nostalgia's a bit of a bugger - in that you can never go back - but you never know what's around the corner.

I really like the ideas in this. The first lines opens it well, but for me, much is too full of recollection and not reflection to make the poem work strongly.

I'd like to see your Irish limericks - with a phonetic and English translation please!

Sounds like you really enjoyed it but I don't think it counts as nostalgia if it's only a few months old.
I, personally, think nostalgia should be illegal for anybody under 30 :-)

Thanks Phil and BBS.
Phil: They're on this site, simply called Limerick and Limerick 2 ;-)
BBS: It must be the weather... I have just been watching fragments of Fantaghiro again, because I loved that movie as a kid. What's wrong of dreaming back to old days, when one still believed in fairy tales? ;-) Sadly though dreaming and knowledge of fairy tales and myths won't make money in the real world.
