one night stand

Lest we forget, my dear,

in the senility of our desires,

struggling to survive the naming game

when meeting in the silence of regret,

I fear, calling each other liars,

conveniently fixing the blame –

that this moment,

without the violence of afterthought,

means
something.

So let us toast the reasons,

and savour the excuses,

and remember that the splinters of our broken dreams

are not sharp enough to sever

the loneliness we share.

Liked this. Not sure if your 'advice' is meant to be uplifting though. It felt rather depressed.

I felt that the first part (up to means something) was just a little too much. Perhaps it was the staccato nature of the lines.

Ends strongly.

Phil.

Ah, what an interesting way to look at it. I usually thought of one night stands as comparable to the way dogs sniff eachother's backside, unable to supress their instincs, but then appearantly one can get philosophical about it. It probably must have its own charm. Your poem does at least ;
