Don't send your baby to boarding school
By punchy
29 October 2007
Yes I know, another one but Its my theme of the day.
Tomorrow will be revenge.

Its nearly September , remember the rule,
DON'T SEND YOUR BABY TO BOARDING SCHOOL

You chose to have children,
You chose to give birth,
That child needs a mother,
So why on this earth,
On the first of September,
All over this land,
There are thousands of mums,
With their heads in the sand,
And unpacking their bags,
And stacking their trunks,
Waving goodbye,
And making their bunks,
Are schools full of children,
All crying with pain,
The unbearable pain,
Of saying goodbye to mummy again.

Yes but if they don't how will they get to learn all those clever spells and how to fly broomsticks and have exciting adventures.........Oh you mean there are other boarding schools?
I was lucky

my parents threatened me with boarding school but could not afford it! I understand the sentiment, but going off to boarding school is not a very widespread phenomenon, even if it is a good setting for children's tales.
Boarding School

Now Punchy: 1/ They don't accept babies at boarding school. 2/ Why blame "mothers"? Fathers send them there also. 3/ Are you sure that the children are crying with pain? Many of the children are crying with a lot more pain when they have to go to many of the state schools, especially when they meet up with the bullies again. I thought it was privileged children who went to private/public schools. Don't many come home weekends nowadays?
Josie has a point...

Josie's got a point. Its not just at Boarding Schools where children are made to feel miserable. I don't care what type of school my children go to as long as it is right for them.

I went to Boarding School and had a whale of a time. I had a very happy home life but I was an only child and I remember I could not wait for the holidays to finish so that I could get back with my friends and get back playing soccer; cricket; athletics; etc; etc...

I think you will find people are a lot more broadminded than your poem suggests.

Slainte!

I assume that baby (as used) was a term of endearment, and not meant literally as sending a 1 year-old to boarding school.
I like to keep my baby at home, where I can spoil her rotten with presents.

All the best,
Steve.

Thank you steve, that was what I meant.I would far rather have been to a state school and suffered bullying from kids and gone home crying to my mother than have to suffer in silence where most of the bullying comes from the teachers, I witnessed children being smashed over the head with a metal jug just for wanting water in the night and one child was pushed down the stairs by that same teacher. One of my friends hung himself in the boys toilets, boys at my school were having sexual encounters with male and female staff as young as 14, we didn't know at the time but it all came out at a school reunion. We used to starve ourselves to get sent home if we got ill enough, I got down to 5 and a half stone but that wasn't enough. Mostly the children were all lovely but the adults mainly the ballet teachers could be wicked. We weren't from priveliged middle class back grounds ,it was a vocational school for ballet and in those days (25 years) we got grants from our councils to pay the fees if our parents were on a low income.Luckily things have changed but I still think until at least 13 a child should be with there mum or dad I was 10. We only got to see them every 3 weeks and no phone calls except on your birthdays and letters were read and torn up if not acceptable. :cry How we coped read my previous poem!
