A stalagmite soaring protrusion
Such grandeur in chaos she keeps
Woven with threads of insomnia
The city they say never sleeps
like a god surveying his kingdom
I gaze far beyond Brooklyn lights
Grazing my face upon near cloud
I witness the Empire State heights
A plague through the heart of midtown
Like Tetris on the streets far below
Yellow taxi in utter abundance
World famous as a Broadway show
In the Harbour she beckons beguiling
Her tainted complexion serene
Tapered seven rays of the diadem
Adorn lady liberty dauphine
The poignant scars of September
That stifle my heart turn cold
Magnificent skyline of Manhattan
Though bereft is something to behold

Probably one of the oldest cities with modern skyscrapers and I heard the people are totally crazy in a pleasant way. Nice poem. | Written by tpowell (105 comments posted) 8th November 2007 | Well written with some poignant images - I don't think any of us will ever forget watching those planes crash into the World Trade Centre. I've been to the US but only to Niagiara Falls for the day! Well, I was in Canada at the time! Also to Florida, but never NYC. I have heard it is a very exciting city, rather like Hong Kong, which I loved. So alive! Good poem! |
