The UK has a long history of immigration. Brythons, Picts, Romans, Gael, Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Frisians, Danes, Norwegians, Normans, Bretons, Dutch... Below I only mention a few of them... Their ancient names forgotten The first tribe made tools of stone They erected standing rocks Memories in rock alone
With chariot, sword and spear The second tribe came to land The Celts gave Britain her name Woad, bleached hair, warrior band
From their far off capital The third tribe conquered it all The whole wide world at their feet Until their Empire's fall
From accross the Irish sea The fourth tribe conducted raids And then colonized the north Ancestors of Scotland's greats
Saex and battle-axe in hand The fifth tribe, Germany's sons Mercenaries turned kings The Angles, Jutes and Saxons
Great longships crossed the grey waves The sixth tribe are the Vikings Danes and Norwegians alike Of whom the Nordic skald sings
From the shores of northern France The seventh tribe claimed England And at Hastings they triumphed England's rule in Norman hand
Britannia conquered all The eighth tribe from everywhere Legacy of empire They all chose to live over there
