The girl
created yet another one
Spherical,
with sparkling stars and flowers
It looked
so cute, this one, with all those things
Yet she
waited for the thing to evolve
Wondered
what it would grow into this time
A little
Adam and a little Eve
Or perhaps funny
dinosaurs this time?
But then
she got bored. It wasn't perfect
Away she
tossed another universe

This is sharp! Written by JohnFHamill (40 comments posted) 15th November 2007 |
I really like this art because indirectly it challenges religious faith and abortion. We can't pick our children, they come. I believe in whatever comes out must be loved and respected as a human being, it was created the way God wanted it to be created. But the mother could choose abortion or put the child up for adoption. Do you think maybe God would do the same on us, giving our failures over history to be like God? If not, then maybe that separates God from us, and makes us less worthy. That is what I took from this art, does it communicate anything you meant to communicate? I look forward to reading more from you. |

| When I first read this, I thought you had made a female god who was playing with creation - but then having read John's comments, think he is right. It is about abortion and how little value many women give to the babies they create. |

Thanks John and Jean. Wow. I actually hadn't thought of the interpretation John provides, although I must say I like it. Perhaps the muse wove that into it secretly. What I had in mind was about a female god (just as Jean thought), with us being just one of the disfunctional universes tossed away. But I must say I like the abortion interpretation very much. after all, she is aborting entire universes... |

I had a picture of a fairy-like eight year old playing god. Even with that image, I would hesitate to use 'cute.' Still, liked it. Phil. |

| Here I come again Fledermaus: What I don't quite understand I don't quite like, and I didn't understand what you were saying. Typical me, and you've heard it before. Please now tell us what you actually had in mind - if only to put me out of my agony. ha ha |

Thanks Phil and Josie. Well, in fact I rather literally meant what Jean and Phil made of it. A little girl creating universes. Who says the creation of ours has to be the work of a wise old man on a cloud who still cares for it every single second? It could just as likely be one of many on a pile of failed experiments. For let's face it, it isn't perfect, so why would a god accept it? |

| Errr... Although John above did provide the answer to that question. I like his interpretation a lot, even though it was not what I originally had in mind. |

Hey I'm always tempted - or perhaps indoctrined - to read too much into poetry and I'm really pleased the 'meaning' behind this was my first reaction to it - simply a little girl creating universes; a simple, unique and inspiring image. Besides that, it's well-written, never overstated or hyperbolic - which is certainly refreshing considering the subject matter - and overall, a joy to read. Nice one. Jon |

| Thanks Jon :-) Yes, that's it. I'm somehow indoctrinated the other way around, for I once had a girlfriend who hated metaphors ;-) |

I had a vision of a little girl blowing soap bubbles. Don't the swirls on a soap bubble look like little galaxies? How do we know that our universe is not some manifestation on the surface of a bubble? I would be most amused if all of our gods turned out to be a small girl with a pot of soapy water... I've been told, indirectly, that I must try harder with poetry. I liked this one |

Thanks Rui. Little girls blowing bubbles or old men in the clouds. They don't seem that different, do they? |
