UNTITLED
When I am bad
People hate me
I don’t blame them
For I know what it takes to be bad!
I wonder though
When I am good
People are jealous
Instead of loving me!
Well, I still cannot fathom their jealousy!
If people cannot be
As good as I am
Is it still my fault?
To cover their incompetency
They blame me for being talented
Instead of being appreciative
They feel jealousy seeping in their blood
It is heartening indeed
As I end up paying the price always
I wish to ask one and all
Why is it a crime to be good and talented?

I agree Written by Josie (2847 comments posted) 16th November 2007 | | It is the same for us all. When we are bad we are hated and when we excel, we are thought to be showing off. You just can't win. There's only one thing to tell yourself Johnny: God knows what you've done, and it is usually the case with writers, that their talent isn't recognized until they are well and truly dead, so they never know. So join the rest of them. ha ha The answer to your last question is: It's not a crime to be good and talented, only it grates other people when you mention it. You must wait for THEM to tell you. | Written by Phil (6963 comments posted) 16th November 2007 | It may be a cultural thing Johnny, but to announce yourself as good and talented does leave yourself open to criticism. As Josie says - perhaps best to wait for someone else to tell you. Phil | Written by Fledermaus (3492 comments posted) 16th November 2007 | " The Master said: I will not be concerned at men's not appreciating me; I will be concerned at my own want of ability." -- Analects. Just be good because you know it's good. What you think about yourself is what matters most. From your poems I do get it that you have a clear view of what you yourself think is right and what is wrong, and I'm pretty sure you'd prefer to do the first and not do the last. | be good to others Written by bwoz (125 comments posted) 16th November 2007 | I think being "good" is just an abstract in the way you have written that descriptive. I think it would be more effective to write details about one good thing -- what you think is good about you. If by "good" you simply mean you can do something better than someone else then the word is very subjective. I saw a basketball game once, at the beginning a young teenage girl was invited to sing the National Anthem. She stood at center court with microphone, started to sing but got so nervous she forgot the words. How embarrasing. Then, one of the coaches -- Earny Banks I believe, walked up beside that girl and began singing the words with her until she quickly remembered them and gained confidence to continue. They finished the song together. Earny Banks did a GOOD thing, he helped someone who desparately needed help, and he did not do it to look good. that is what I think you should put into this piece, is the precise "good" thing you have done. Sorry for rambling, but I like to tell that story. BW | Understanding a poem Written by JohnnyD (106 comments posted) 18th November 2007 | It really takes great insight to understand what a writer / poet wish to say to the world through his / her writings. My poem reflects the talented people all over the world, who face the same situation as I have been facing. Sadly though few like Josie, Fledermaus and BW (I loved the story you shared with one and all) understood my poem, there will be many who will never understand why I wrote this piece. Well, thank you one and all for atleast going through my works! I really feel honoured! Take care always |
