A Grievous Insult
By BrianRobertNeal
29 November 2007

A poorly written poem that at the moments vents my spleen and contains my sense of outrage.

Racism meets Faithism in an unholy alliance.

I am a very wicked man,
Doing all the evil I can.
The worst I have done so far is
Rename Golly Leeroy,"Moses."

Who is Golly Leeroy? I remember a cartoon character on jam jars from the UK, whom I later saw in the newspaper as being the cause of some hot debate over there about whether or not it was racist. Could that be him?
No idea what this is about, but I presume it's a British issue?

A 54 year old English Woman working as a teacher asked her class of 7 year olds to name the class's Teddy Bear.

They suggested the name of the Prophet. Several of the boys in the class are so named.

The woman has been arrested and is going to be tried for "Insulting Islam". If found guilty she will receive fourty lashes.

"Golly Leeroy". In England pinky liberals find black faced soft toys offensive. However very few black people would agree in fact I've sent one of my black friends who's just become a father of twinsa pair of very elegant gollies. I checked with him first and he thought a great idea.

Leeroy is used in the same way as Tommy or Paddy or Taffy or Jock. So renaming him after Moses was a symbolic gesture.

My mate Morry thinks it a great idea, he says dress him up like Santa Claus and call him "Father Honicher"

It suppose it's just lucky they didn't decide to call it Allah!
I wonder what they would have said if she had called it Osama?
How can you take a religion seriously when they get outraged about a soft toy, and yet think it normal for sunny to be killing shi-ites in Iraq? They keep telling us we don't understand Islam and just demonise it. And then something like this happens!!!

Will we never learn, we tried appeasing the Vikings and the NAZIs and where did it get us?

And now we're doing it again. Can one really tolerate the intolerable.

Just to go a little against the flow.

Can't disagree with the sentiments expressed - but, is it not just something latched onto by the print and visual media because they don't have the guts or political will to explore, expose and rant about more important things. Sure, I feel for the woman - but what about the millions who die needlessly in Africa for lack of food? What about child labour and abuse that happens daily around the world - that most of us probably/possibly benefit from in cheap goods? What about, as mentioned, the different factions of the same religion who seem to ritually murder each other because they have a slightly differing faith view? Etc, etc ad nauseum.

Not a story to be ignored, but the media have got this out of all proportion.

Not your fault Brian, and fair game to write about. Thought you were pretty restrained actually.

Phil.
