the christmas present
By gnomon
29 November 2007

he bought a star
a nice big shiny one
stuffed in his shopping bag
pricey, sure
but price don’t matter
no sir
christmas coming up
his kid wants it, demands it
the little s.o.b.
won’t shut up about it
gimme this, gimme that
brat has everything
the latest, the greatest
a warehouse full of wonders;
and still the kid cries
as christmas fades away
the star lost on a shelf
there beside the moon
the evening star
hugging the horizon
fearing for her life
