Thank the Lord for Allah
By wt
29 November 2007

Aren’t we thanking the Lord for Allah
So that we may stand righteous in our expansion
Against this new threat through which some
Rag tag flip flopped nomad
Hiding In some deep hole
Like a rat
Somewhere
Hunted
In a place called nowhere
Can control the fate of mankind

As we fuel fire
With crude oil
And turn the poor bastards
Into desperate
Naked
Humiliated
Raped
Sodomized
Abou Ghreib prisoners
When after decades of their enduring
Skin peeling
Testicle electrocuting
Tortured
Left half breathing examples
We have transformed whatever resilience they had
Into some rabid mad dog
Waging his anger

And then we are surprised

And still the harder we push
With consumers in debt
We feed the machine
With blood
While our politicians stand before us
When they might as well not
Ah
But it's lot more complicated than that

Who is converting?
What religion?
Tribes
Bullshit
Let's ask the Saudi
Drunk in some Mayfair casino
He’ll tell us how its done

Wt, I sometimes wonder what the hell you are going on about (and indeed, what you are on!). It seems to me that you take a stream of consciousness (or possibly even unconsciousness), string it all together and post it up as poetry.
However, “Let's ask the Saudi. drunk in some Mayfair casino. He’ll tell us how its done" For me this was bang on the money, but it's not just Mayfair... Dubai, Bahrain… have money, will debauch!
Nice one.

Isn't the great irony of your title that Allah literally means The Lord? I think that in English they should simply translate it as such. It's the same God as the Christian and Jewish one.
There is probably no religion more like Christianity than Islam, yet for thousands of years the two have been waging war against eachother...
And yes, religion is just a propaganda tool in those cases. If God exists (which is the whole point of such religions), and wanted a nation or faith to be destroyed he would not need mortals to do it for him.

Actually there is very little similarity between Islam and Chrisitianity.

As the last to be prophesized of the monotheistic religions it reconciled Jewish lore which was mostly physical (an eye for an eye) with that of Chrisitianity which was mostly spiritual (turn the other cheek)...

The result is a unique set of laws that dictate your physical as well as spiritual ...

irrespective its the conditions/condiioning that shape the animal and man is none for the better

the danger is that you now have extremists on both sides and if you look at history...the product of this extremisms is no humanist...bye bye orientalism!

Hi again wt.
In both the Bible and the Koran I can see passages which preach peace and passages which preach war. Even for the 'turn the other cheek' passage I have heard more than one interpretation.

Both Christianity and Islam believe in one God (the same one even), both hold a book as the core of their religion (containing nearly the same stories), both believe in Jesus (either as an incarnation of God or as the second best prophet), both are very intolerant towards atheism and polytheism, both see themselves as evolved out of Judaism and consider Jeruzalem one of their main holy places...

With what other religion do they have more in common than with eachother?

I guess I'll take that as a complement

I am glad that you are such a big fan and that rather than bother to look for content that you can't quite put a finger on, you assume that I am lucky enough to have a stream of a conscious "something"

I'll give you a hint of what I'm on.
It's like a wife who discovers after many years of being happily (I mean heavenly) married that her husband has forver been sleeping around (with everyone and lots)and that every body and their mother new about it exept for her.

Shell shock!

yes sure islam builds on both where Abraham is the father of all prophets...and Jesus (though not crucified) was also a prophet

That is why under islamic rule these two communities were not "persecuted" ... So of course islam considers that it is a continuation....but as far as doctrin, teaching, practice...that's as far as it goes

w. re: your reply. I can only reiterate what I said before “I sometimes wonder what the hell you are going on about.”
Try conversing in English now and again, you might find that it helps! If you don’t do English, any human language will suffice.
Just to set the record straight, I am NOT a big fan. I simply felt that you hit the target with “Let's ask the Saudi.”
And as for “looking for content that you can't quite put a finger on”, it’s difficult to look for something that clearly isn’t there or indeed to put a finger on the pulse on a dead duck.

sure what else would one expect frome someone who calls shiites shits and who would solve the whole issue by calling his dog/teddy Ali

unlike me you are not opaque and certainly speak in simple human english.

Hmmmm I've noticed you can to revert to simple english when it comes to attacking reviewers.
Anyway, I came to review the poem. I stuggled to understand it fully. I think I know the intention and the second verse was the best and clearest for me. It seems you have tried not to take a side with it, which is laudable
and "But it's lot more complicated than that" just about sums it up for me

The first verse smply states that for some people having Allah or a hostile Islam is convenient .

For example I've read somewhere on this page someone calling the prophet mohammed a faggot ...and using the pretence of freedom of speech to do so when to me they are clearly just racist....This in turn makes wars more politically viable..

The reference to the rat is to Oussama bin Laden who from some hole in some god forsaken mountain range has effected all our lives to such an extent ...fear,...leading gvt to infring on our privacy... immigration ...I find that ludicrous

Whom am I supposed to have taken sides with dear?
can you be clearer?
Fear not I come in peace.

Wt, I liked your poem and unusual for me it made sense and was quite powerful. I don't want to get in a political row and to be honest I'm out of my league but I have to say good for you for opening up as to your hidden agenda which I think was mentioned before and if in your position I would be provoking and reeling out poems at every given opportunity. Its good for you to have an outlet so feel free to lay in to my stuff ,I'll take it on chin. They should have a poems for therapy section on here and we could all have a good rant. There are some seriously good and talented poets and writers on this site and they prob don't want people using the site and possibly stiring things up a bit which I completely understand. But being shit at poetry, I myself have lowered the tone a little but it's like a habit that's hard to break and I can't stop writing. I do think you have great potential which coming from me prob means nothing but its a free world so rant away and maybe we'll learn to understand what your saying . ;)

I like this poem. It tells it like it is. What a crap, hypercritical world we live in where God seems to stand for Guns, Oil and Drugs, those things we worship the most.

Thanks Dear

I think that after these two weeks, I get the jist of the group dynamics and I greatly respect the effort, dedication and love that its king (and queen) pins put into this site. Without them I am sure that Great Writing wouldn't be where it is today.

Hidden agenda I'd be so lucky to have, but certainly I am drawn to socio-political critique and in an age where the left has vanished and the social romanctics have gone. I think that it is sometimes difficult on getting a concensus on issues as there is no longer an ideological direction that people look to. ( I do also believe that people drifting to the right of right is a dangerous symptom...)

Personally I think that we've been had by a bunch corrupt greedy war mongering cowboys and mostly feel that this is because we've been bought....but enough of that

Thanks for the support Punchy
Take good Care

True and and at the end of the day they'll be sipping champagne in their palaces while the rest of us deal with mess that's left behind

Can you believe how much money Tony Blair is making on the lecture circuit!

Shouldn't you be in school at this time of the day?

Transparently displaying your inadequate brain,
You childishly continue to bastardise my name!
It’s my duty to inform you that your poetry’s lame,
Your argument’s weak and your mind just the same.

Regards,

Steve Roster, Rooster, Toaster, Tosser, Trotter, Trouser, Shitoaster.

Heard it all before, seen the film, worn the T-shirt and read the childish book.

You do far more damage to your own name than you can ever do to mine and it says far more about you than it says about me.
