Well Hello Oh Connor

Another one of the items for my Grandson (I seem to have done lotz of these). The name of the child can be "customised" to suit ANY grandchild.

WELL, HELLO O CONNOR
‘TIS G'PA ‘TIS ME,
AWAKE IN THE NIGHT
HAVING GONE FOR A WALK IN THE
WARM NIGHT AIR,
NOW THE SUN HAS STOPPED SHINING
AND BLEACHING MY HAIR

THE STARS ARE STILL TWINKLING
BUT BLOW ME DOWN,
I WAS SURE THAT I SAW, ONE
WAS WEARING A FROWN

NOW WHY THAT SHOULD BE
IS A MYST'RY TO ME
FOR STARS THAT ARE FROWNING
ARE SORRY TO SEE.

THE ONE'S THAT I LOOK FOR,
IN THE WARM NIGHT AIR,
NORMALLY WINK AT
MY THINNING BROWN HAIR.

THEY USUALLY SMILE
(LIKE MY TEETH WHEN THEY'RE OUT)
SWIMMING IN STARLIGHT
AND GIVING A SHOUT!!

"WE'LL KEEP ON SMILING
AND WINKING AT HIM,
‘TIL HE FINALLY GETS UP
AND PUTS THEM BACK IN."

SO, NOW THAT I HAVE THEM
A'RIGHTFULLY PLACED
I'M SURE THAT MY FACE LOOKS
AS RIGHT AS A BRACE,

OF SHINY NEW PISTOLS
ALL READY, IN PLACE
TO POLISH AND KEEP
IN HAPPINESS AND OIL

AND LOVE AND GOOD WISHES,
FOR A HARD NIGHT'S TOIL
AT KEEPING THE FROWNING
AND WINKING AT BAY,

OF SAD LOOKING STARS
WHEN THEY COME OUT TO PLAY,
AT KEEPING ALL G'PAS
ALL TIMES LOOKING UP,

FOR THE ONE THAT IS SMILING
FOR THEM ALL ALONE,
KNOWING THEY LOVE THEM
THO' FAR, FAR FROM HOME.

BUT HOME IS A BIG PLACE
AS YOU'LL COME TO LEARN,
A PLACE THAT YOU ALWAYS
WILL HAVE TO RETURN.

WHEREVER THAT PLACE IS
YOU ALWAYS WILL FIND,
IS THE PLACE WHERE YOUR HEART IS
RIGHT NEXT TO MINE.

I love your poems but can't help noticing you'Re not getting many reviews which I'm not sure why.
THis one was sweet and whimsical but also tender at the end. I'm not sure small children would understand it completely but I really liked it.
Keep em coming ;)
Poor old sod!

Poor old granddad - lost and without his teeth. ha ha. I must say I had to laugh. Thinning on top? You'll have to read my poem "When God Created Adam" and you'll know the reason why your hair is thin. What a fun granddad you must be.
