Maybe Tomorrow
By audrie
13 December 2007
I wrote this a while ago - where was that tom cat???

I'm on the outside, looking in
Lost in time and out of place.
I waited for ten thousand years
And then I met you - face to face.
I thought that you were outside too
And my isolation gone.
But you were inside, snug and warm
You heeded not, you passed on
And left me there in empty space.

The loss I felt  was so intense
My inner heart cracked open  wide,
And buds of pain put forth their shoots.
I felt they should have slowly died
But, feeding on my tears they grew.
Soon compassion blossomed there
And all around me, branch on branch,
Were fruits of knowledge, and awareness
Filled my sky. I softly sighed

And knew that pain could make me grow
Can sometimes make the foolish  wise,
And loneliness the price we pay
To reap the harvest of the skies.
For now I know that my despair
Will lead me to tranquillity.
Yet, sometimes when the night is cold
I ache for you to comfort me,
And something deep inside me dies.

Maybe tomorrow there will be
Someone with the eyes to see,
A cat  -  who walks alone  -  like me.

What a very sad poem Audrey. I can feel the anguish coming through, and how well you have expressed it. (Dogs don't forsake their owners - only humans forsake each other). I have to tell you that I do not like the font on this poem and the thickness and darkness of the letters makes it difficult for me to read it.

I agree with you about the font, Josie, it is a bit too black and closely spaced.
I do keep trying out new fonts, just for a change, but won't use this one again.

Totally agree with you about animals, so faithful.
Demands comparison...

I enjoyed reading your poem. It has a nice rhythm and is easy to follow.

Thanks to all.

The idea was to put both verses together to make a comparison, one where the man is the cause and one the woman, of heartbreak. I'm not laying faults, it takes two to make and two to break a marriage

I think there are a whole lot of women out there, of a certain age, who would feel trapped like that. Of course, today's women would not put up with it!
