Santa to run for Parliament
By woody44
16 December 2007

Well its no dafter than Gordon Brown being given the PMs job....

Iceland has a new candidate in the run up to the next parliamentary elections. Santa Claus, reindeer farmer and part-time parcel courier, will be standing for the Social Alliance Community (SAC). One of his main platforms for election will be the spiralling price of animal feedstuffs. Geir Haarde, Prime Minister since 1995 and now leader of a coalition between the Right wing Independence Party and the Social Democratic Alliance, has long been a strong opponent of curbing the free market in the pricing of these feeds.
From his farm in the far north of Iceland Mr Claus told our reporter, `I have seen the cost of travelling worldwide rise to such prohibitive levels that if something is not done immediately then I am afraid I will not be able to carry on with my business, which could have very serious consequences for thousands of manufacturers, not to mention the millions of disappointed children who rely on my service. That is why I am putting myself up as a candidate`
When these comments were put to Prime Minister Haarde, he said he had to look at it from the point of view of the feedstuff manufacturers. `Keeping these feed prices artificially low just to allow someone to gallivant around the world every December is not really on.` He went on to say that he was sorry that his stand on the subject might put Mr Claus out of business, but as he and his dear wife had not been blessed with children he really didn`t give a toss.....

So now he's from Iceland? Would be a nice compromise...
If I lived there, I'd vote for him :P

Well I'd vote for him, better than having that grim, soulless calculating machine that we've got
I take it you mean the country not the freezer centre, woody.
I liked the last comment; a bit of honesty slipping out there, I think.
This touches on so many issues and ties them all together in a delightully surreal way
Happy Christmas

Geir Haarde's long dead Scotish cousin will be spinning in his grave - while his eastwhile successors spin for a living.

Enjoyed this Woody.

Nice one, Woody. Least we don't have to worry about Santa's carbon footprint. Mind reindeer shit, that's different. That's the trouble with Christmas. Reindeer shit everywhere.

And a Happy Christmas to you and and Mrs Woody.

Like the thought of all that shit at Christmas Gerard, and not just coming from reindeer...
Hope Mr Cromwell is still progressing favourably.

Seasons greetings to you and yours.

Then again, he could just wait until the sales start about two weeks before Christmas and queue up for his fodder with all those other people who seem desperate for a bargain at 5 o'clock in the morning. Enjoyed the idea of Santa "going political"... I'm sure he does give a toss... when his wife's not looking... Best wishes for Christmas and New Year, Woody.
