Write another poem - oh no, not again
By st4945

I took a course in creative writing and struggled with poetry.
The tutor asked us to write yet another poem on an subject.
This was my response. i hope people like it and it inspires other fellow strugglers.

WRITE ANOTHER POEM – OH NO, NOT AGAIN
How did they do it, those men of verse?
Shakespeare, Byron, Masefield and Keats.
Larkin, Lear, W B Yeats.

Did they, like me, sit for hours on end?
Searching for words or phrases to bend
into shape for limerick, ode or sonnet.
Deciding whether to say cap, hat or bonnet.

Did they dither on freeform or rhyme,
sitting around for most of the time?
Looking for inspiration around the room,
searching for something to lighten the gloom.

Was it a struggle, was it a fight,
to put together verses that delight,
hosts of readers clinging to every word,
of those great poets? Don’t be absurd!

I doubt for me that I’ll reach the stage
where readers wish to turn every page
of work, that I struggle to put down in verse.
It’s like pulling teeth. No, for me it's worse.

Yes, a good novel approach. It works for me and I found it light-hearted and witty.
