My Dog Ponders The Chrismas Tree
By Talisker
19 December 2007
What in the name of dog is this?
I’m gone but a few wags
and here has grown
a green-bristled pissing post
as high as a Great Dane’s head
whilst pleasuring his bitch.

Furthermore, what are
these dangling fruits
of many shapes and hues
and the strange piles
of rustling-skinned items
gathered round the squirting spot?

I think I understand!
The feeding one
has provided for me
in this inclement climate
a place indoors to “be clean”!

How kind and thoughtful
are the tall dogs!

some great giggles in this - "what in the name of dog is this?" got me started. The whole poem turns the concept of the Christmas tree on its head in the same way.

I used to put my tree up on the sideboard to get it out of the way of the kids and the cats - but cats think sideboards are merely stepping stones on the way to heaven. It worked for the kids though.

Nice to see you back here Oli! I hope the recipients of your presents don't get something extra from the dog.

Lovely to see you back Oli. Time off for good behaviour?

This appeals to me and had me laughing a few times. I just hope you've got the dog earthed if you've left the lights on.

Phil.

Big laughs in Yorkshire too. When you're a "doggy" person, you understand not only how they dream but how they think too. Mine have usually been bitches though, but we always had to pay attention to our giant Christmas cactus in the hall whenever they had gentleman callers. ha ha/

Yep, agree with all the above. The thing I like about your stuff is the originality of your mind.

See your next poem for greetings.
