Nightmare

I have some terrible dreams, this is one that as visited me on many occasion.

There must have been fifty of them
burning cars
burning people
running
screaming
silent screams
on this highway of fire,
the stink of burning flesh
filled my head on this
winters night.

In the shadows
my long dead parents and grandparents
watched silently
as children burned
as mothers wept tears of fire,
my parents held aloft babies
in their skeletal arms
for me to see before
the fire consumed all.

These are some pretty intense images you've been having in your dreams.

Fire was the dominant picture I got in my head when I read this.

for your comments, I think I once read somewhere that fire was a sign of regeneration, so who knows what the dream is about, not me for sure.

To dream of fire depends on the action:

If it burned you it is a sign of impending trouble.

To observe something burning forecasts an urgent appeal for help from a close friend or relative.

To see anything of value burning, or if you set the fire, the dream is telling you to control your temper or be prepared for serious consequences.

To dream of killing:
To dream of being a witness to murder indicates a change that may not be to your liking.

Either way, you need to get whatever is causing these recurrent dreams out of your system, asap.

Something quite powerful about this Bernie. As a statement from you it's fine. As a piece of poetry, it could be a little more subtle. For example - the title kind of knocks you over the head.

Army days?

This piece recapures some of the power I remember from your earlier pieces. Lked it.
