Light's Absence
By Toad
25 December 2007
Carl Jung's concept of finding one's shadow, hidden in the dark unconscious

It is not light, it is light's absence
that truly does reveal us
flick a switch, turn on a light
the light that does conceal us

Call it God or call it Zeus
I'll call it nature's mother
that wants us to be in the dark
to look upon our other

I'll walk the roads of neighborhoods
'neath streetlights' pools of light
that illuminate- then set me free
to travel through the night

My companion is a voice I hear
I heed its every word
for when the sun unleashes light
that voice cannot be heard

I'm late coming to it but I totally agree with this poem.

Someone once told me that we should try to escape our 'dark' side, but I believe (after doing a meditation on Jung's descent into his own darkness) that we should aim to bring the light into the darkness that we ALL have. It was a very interesting experiment!
