Forgive Me, Mum
By Josie
29 December 2007

Children have a knack of helping themselves to your chocolates over the Christmas period - or if not them, their father.  But, just tell yourself that they are doing you a favour.

Mum, just a note to let you know
               Why your chocolate’s disappeared.
            You’ll have your own suspicions,
And they’ll be exactly as you feared.

For I saw them on the table,
When I came down in the night
            I couldn’t think what I could eat,
Then your chocolates came in sight.

I wanted just to look at them,
Well, to examine them for fun.
The smell of chocolate tempted me
And I thought I’d take just one.

            The taste was so delicious
That I took another one –
This led me on to several more,
               Oh please forgive me Mum.

Perhaps you might be pleased with me
Thinking what I’ve done was great,
For by my eating all your chocolates,
You won’t pile on the weight.

Heheh... Yes and true: They still got to grow. Their mum does not.

Sounds about right, Josie. I can put chocolates away for a special occasion - or just a greed fest - and return weeks later to find them all gone. Doesn't help the weight gain though. I can manage that without chocolates.

Thank you everyone for your reviews. It's especially nice to have the young review from TurboWolffe because this was written for your age group.

Josie,
THIS I like; no treacle, no effort, no over-cloying; simply stated as it is.

Is it possible that we have met? On a winter's day? And talked of Post Offices, and poetry, and sundry other things?
If I am The Walrus, you are, indeed, the Carpenter; but we ought not walk hand in hand, on moors bar't'at!
Thank you for pointing me in this direction. P
Ahh - the penny dropped

Yes indeed. Fate threw you right into my firing line. We did speak of post offices, poetry and sundry other things. So now you know how we capture new members for Great Writing. Welcome. Thanks for your review.

Loved this poem Josie, I think adults as well as children can relate to the temptations of chocolate, especially with the easter period coming up now!

reallyh lovely, like many of your other poems...

I particularly love this one, especially the ending! It sounds so much like my hubby, who tells our 5-year old child, 'Son, this stuff is bad for you, very bad, so Daddy will finish it all.' And he does.

Mia :p
