I think we all look back over the old year and remember our joys and sadness; remember the seasons coming and going and the money spent. You are lucky if you have survived in one piece, emotionally or physically. We don't know what the new year has in store, but I send you all my best wishes and hope that good things will come your way.
The old year makes his exit now –
See - the curtain gently falls.
Goodbye to scenes of mirth and joy
To the worries, large and small.
He’s trodden our earthly path with us
Through the seasons of the year
He’s shared our days of happiness
And the days that brought us tears.
He was welcomed in with church bells
And bright fireworks in the sky.
He’s seen the birth of babies,
And stood by the ones who died.
He saw the spring flowers blooming –
And enjoyed the summer days.
He painted the autumn colours
Also cloudy days of grey.
He’s shared our hopes and sorrows
But now he must depart –
For the year has gone full circle –
And a new year soon will start.

Goodbye to the old year Written by embro (126 comments posted) 29th December 2007 | That just about says it all, very nicely. The trouble is that they seem to pass faster and faster...Is it coz I'm getting older? hope not. Good topical subject. I like it. all the best embro | Goodbye, Old Year Written by jillrabbit (57 comments posted) 29th December 2007 | I love the personification of the year. I always find New Year's Eve quite sad and, like embro, it seems that the years are going quickly now. Perhaps if everyone took a leaf out of our book and wrote poetry, the world might be a nicer place. Here's hoping... | Written by Fledermaus (3246 comments posted) 30th December 2007 | Yes. Very nice They do seem to go faster indeed: But then, as a kid I already thought 5 minutes was incredibly long. Somehow though I usually look forward to the new year rather than back at the old. | Thanks Written by Josie (2772 comments posted) 30th December 2007 | | Thanks for your reviews. I agree that the years seem to go faster, even though my time is not so committed to work and family as it used to be. But you always fill your time with other things instead, and I'm afraid that writing poetry has filled many many hours over the last 2 years. Being a GW member keeps you at it I rather think. Still, whether your year goes by fast or slow, I hope it will be a good one for all of you. | Written by Phil (6681 comments posted) 30th December 2007 | Wshing you all the best for the New Year, Josie. I have a theory about the years clicking by faster and faster. As they represent a bigger proportion of the life you have left, they fly by even faster. or - year length is inversely proportional to time left. If they're really clicking by for any of you - look out! Phil |
