A trip to Poundland
twice a week
that's my save and spend,
aye
a trip to Poundland
twice a week
it's where all us
poor folk go.

Do you have to go twice a week because none of the goods last more than a couple of days and you need to replace them ? Hope not...
all the best

"twice " was put in because I thought it goes well with the piece

Hi,
Anthem for the common man, indeed!
Starts off well, with a terrific rhythm, which you've lost when you come to the punch line.
So - good and bad in one eight-liner.

Wasn't it you not so long ago, suggested that the poor be swept away???

Don't tell me you've joined the unwashed masses?

Loved embro's comment about why you have to go twice!

I was born during the first world war and everyone was poor in terms that many don't recognize today. We ate mostly what came from our gardens because we never had a Poundland and everything was rationed anyway. Our parents made our toys and clothes. We walked everywhere or went on the bus. I didn't know it then, but poverty was health compared to how many people live today and shop at Poundland and other supermarkets..
Thank you

PVT, Audrie, Rosie for your comment and for taking the time.

PVT, see your point but I quite like the ending of this.

Audrie, the piece you are talking about is called "Not like Us", most of the reviews on this understood where I was coming from on this, the MC in in that piece is not me, it is/was intended as a swipe at the 4x4 warriors who live in their surburban paradise and tend to look down on poorer folk, most reviwers got this, you did not.

Rosie, the idea of living of what you grow is ideal, but this little peice is about reality in 2008, where many people because of economic hardship have to shop at places like Poundland, you don't grow much food in the inner citys.

Again thank you all for your comments
Bernie
