Forgotten
By Zeinah
12 January 2008
A childhood companion abandoned in the journey of maturity.

Gently exiled to a lonesome shelf,
Pitiful relic slumped alone with himself.
Gone are the days of hugs in the night.
Soothing tear-clotted fears, banishing fright.

Mismatched eyes that remember a friend,
Forlorn bystander since childhood’s end.
One oil-drop eye remains from younger days.
A button replaces the other with bright blue glaze.

Where are the fingers with the innocent touch?
Brown fur has paled with a once-faithful clutch.
Weeping white blood from stitches undone,
Battle wounds from giggling games of fun.

Memories are sown in each velveteen patch,
A scrapbook of memoirs in every torn scratch.
Once the most precious of all her possessions,
Forgotten in the glitter-storm of adolescence.

This tackles something which I never would have thought of. This is probably because I never kept a teddy or anything like that (I suppose I was always a bit of a loner!). But the poem itself is well-written and forces any forgotten emotions that someone might have into the open. I really like the idea of how the teddy aged through all the fun times. The rhyming falls together really well. Keep it up! :)
Maybe not completely

Maybe not completely abandoned, but only for a while. My daughter has children now, and they love the toys she once had. They've come to life again with a bang. Her old rag doll, Looby Loo is what they always look for when they visit Granny and I'd never be forgiven if I gave Looby to a charity shop. Lovely poem which brings to life things which happen in life. Your rhyming and rhythm were good too. Yes, very nice.
