AN APPRAISAL TO APPLIED EDUCATION

Does the education apply or approve?

“The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think—rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with the thoughts of other men.” Bill Beattie

The current status of education is far behind the indented purpose. The competitive attempt to survive negotiated the fixed transformative goal. The mere imparting knowledge had marred the rich concept education. The post modern educational theorist have fractioned the whole aspects of education in two words, purpose and functions.

A purpose is the fundamental goal of the process—an end to be achieved. Functions are other outcomes that may occur as a natural result of the process. This caused the whole purpose of education is just to transmits the knowledge for futuristic desired goal. However the major crux of the purpose education, ie, function remains as a targeted goal. Consequently this became ‘never achieved’ or ‘unattainable’ task.
These factors played as the predominant factors for the inception of ‘Applied Education’. Applied Educational institutions concentrate on various fields promising high level research in education and focusing on learning and instructions. Each institution struggle their maximum to reflect current belief and effective approach. Qualitative education = Quantitative payment, this became the alerting slogan for the so called applied educational institutions.

Globally and even regionally education doesn’t serve the purpose of applied education. Now the encounter is what do we expect from the education? Is it MONEY with MISTERY or MIND with MIRACLE? This doesn’t require revising the curriculum, but definitely require revising the function of education. The current common aspects of life are unknown to the educationist.

The most urgent need is function of education should go in hand with the purpose of education. Educationist must achieve the self realization of the purpose of manhood to transform than to just transmit. This ambition will definitely raise the educationist beyond the author and content, tools and tricks to facts and figures. As the above stated question today education approve the existing status quo rather than to apply. All educations must be applied and committed for the transformation of humanity,

Sneakpeak, I think you're in the wrong section... unless you intend to write a series of articles on the same subject.

Having said that, as a tutor in FE (where education is supposed to be very much applied), it was interesting to read what you had to say, although I think I would have liked to have seen some examples to illustrate your points.

My particular issue is that the Btec qualifications contain far too much theoretical matter and not enough practical activity. To give an example, on Btec Introductory Diploma in IT@Work we have a unit called PC Systems in which students have, laboriously, to write about input devices and output devices and to find (on the internet) a high spec PC and a low spec PC. How much better it would be if they could replace components inside a computer! Also, I believe, on Btec First Diploma in Sport (which I don't teach), they sit in the classroom writing about sports leadership and never get to touch a ball or play any sport at all.

Anyway, that's my thoughts. I really do think you need to be on Not News.

No, not in not-news: Not-news is just fake news reports. It should be in non-fiction.

I partially agree with you on what education should do... Yet without knowledge, one cannot have opinions. In order think for yourself one has to know what others think first I guess. In the Netherlands they are so busy letting pupils 'think for themselves' that they seem to lack a lot of basic knowledge nowadays.

Also it turned out to be pretty disappointing to find out the market has no need for people who just like to think, learn and know. They need economists, lawyers and computer programmers. I'm lucky to have an MSc in Computational Linguistics and thus have some programming skills, but my MA in Celtic Studies seems completely useless in todays society. Deep inside my heart I would want to write and teach people about history and languages, to continue studying forever, but there is no money in that sector :sigh

The most important thing I learned at the uni is that unless you love money, laws, machines or computers, following your heart isn't always the best way to get a job :cry

Sorry about that. I was rambling. I liked your essay.
