I am a novice when it comes to poetry but i enjoy writin,g i dont really

class my untitled as poetry im not sure what catagory to put it in as it is largely in rhyme, i hope you enojy reading it.

Some people say dont hold on to regret

Forget the past and move onto the next

But what happens when the person you've become isnt who you planned to be

and how you got there is more than a clouded mystery

When you wake up and realise that your way off track

be sure in the knowledge that you can change your own map

dont keep the hate close it only leads to the bad

you are worth more than that

so make sure you are heard.

One of my tutors at Uni said that poetry was (I quote from memory, but I think accurately):

"Saying as much as is needed in as few words as possible"

Poetry and Rhyme are not necessarily interchangeable terms (ask Roger McGough!!)

I felt that maybe the last line didn't quite "work", but again I don't rate myself as a poet and that's just a subjective thing.
Hope this helps!

Faye,
This is very good, and its just how I was feeling this morning, asking myself what AM I DOING??? I seem to go from one crisis to another, and reading this I thought YES I'm incharge of my own MAP.
So well done you, it is so true.
Thanks for sharing it. :)

Hi Faye,

It's not poetry as we know it, but it might work with a little bit of tinkering as a 'verse' inside a card to a friend. I think you'd have to at least lose the cliches and get some tighter, condensed imagery in there for it to make a poem, as you say in your intro. Thanks for the read.

I think that if a lot of us change our maps as you aptly put it, then we may (with a slight push) reach our own destinies.
Thanks for sharing yours with me/us.
